It was established in 2015 as a subsidiary of Octopus Group, a British asset management company. As of February 2021 the company had over 2 million domestic and business customers, as well as providing software services to other energy suppliers. Octopus Energy has operations in the UK, Germany, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the USA.
